Clark County commissioners approve new fire chief

Clark County has a new fire chief after commissioners approved Gregory Cassell for the job today.

Cassell has worked for the Clark County Fire Department for 25 years and has been a battalion chief since 2006, most recently overseeing the training division.

The commission approved his appointment unanimously after County Manager Don Burnette recommended Cassell for the job earlier this month.

Cassell will be paid an annual salary of $147,000 plus benefits.

Cassell will replace Bertral Washington, who left in December to take over as fire chief in Pasadena, Calif.

The Clark County Fire Department is the state’s largest, serving the Las Vegas Strip and unincorporated parts of the county, which include more than 900,000 residents.
