LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. — Authorities say a body found at a Southern California beach has been identified as the 18-year-old Las Vegas man swept off rocks into the ocean last week.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department said Thursday that the coroner will try to determine the cause of death for Anthony Parnell.

The active search for Parnell was called off last Thursday, four days after he was swept away while exploring a cave-like outcropping with man-made saltwater pools in Laguna Beach.

The body was recovered Wednesday from knee-deep water in a rocky area of Shell Beach in Three Arch Bay, about a half-mile south of the area Parnell was last seen.

Parnell's parents said last week that he played football at Centennial High School in Las Vegas and recently signed up for the Army.
