A man shot and killed by a Metro Police sniper Wednesday after firing at officers and into an apartment has been identified as Francis Lamantia Spivey, 43, of Las Vegas, authorities said.

Metro Police identified the officer who shot Lamantia as 36-year-old Bradley Cupp, who has been with the department’s SWAT team since 2003.

The incident started about 12:20 a.m. at the Eagle Trace apartments in the 5300 block of East Craig Road.

Lamantia, dressed in military-style clothing, was threatening to kill himself and opened fire a number of times as officers tried to evacuate residents, police said.

Lamantia was shot about 5 a.m. after he fired into an apartment that was believed to have people in it, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cupp is on routine paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
