North Las Vegas man dies after ATV plunges into ditch

A man died Monday when he lost control of his ATV and crashed into a North Las Vegas drainage ditch, police said.

The accident happened at about 4:15 p.m. at Goldfield Street and Sergeant Jordan Avenue, near Lone Mountain Road and Commerce Street. Officers found an injured man lying next to an ATV in a ditch near the roadway.

The North Las Vegas man was speeding southbound on Goldfield Street when he attempted to turn left onto eastbound Sergeant Jordan, North Las Vegas Officer Aaron Patty said in a statement.

The man was unable to make the turn, left the road and fell 12 feet into a drainage ditch, Patty said.

The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No one else was involved in the crash.

This is the first fatal crash in North Las Vegas this year, Patty said.
