Suspect in downtown alley slaying arrested in Northern California

A fugitive in the shooting death of a 34-year-old man in a downtown Las Vegas alley has been arrested in a Northern California hamlet near the Oregon state line.

A sheriff's spokeswoman in California's Siskiyou County said Thursday that FBI and sheriff's deputies, aided by a California Highway Patrol helicopter, arrested 33-year-old Andrew Anthony Gorman on Tuesday in the town of Happy Camp.

Gorman was being held at the county jail in Yreka, Calif., pending transfer in custody to Las Vegas.

Metro Police Officer Miguel Garcia says Gorman was identified as the man seen fleeing after the shooting a little before 8 p.m. Dec. 11 near 13th Street and Ogden Avenue. A motive hasn't been made public.

The slain man was identified as Manuel Niceforo Cardenas of Las Vegas.
