R&B artist The Weeknd accused of punching Metro officer

The Canadian R&B artist known as The Weeknd was arrested in Las Vegas after police say he hit an officer in the head.

Metro Police Officer Laura Meltzer says 24-year-old Abel Tesfaye was arrested early Saturday in a Las Vegas Strip hotel on suspicion of misdemeanor battery of a protected person. He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, but wasn't listed on the jail roster on Monday.

Meltzer says police were trying to break up a fight on one of the floors when Tesfaye hit an officer on the side of the head with a closed fist.

She says it doesn't appear that the officer was seriously hurt.

The Weeknd was scheduled for a concert Friday at Drai's Nightclub. He's featured on Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder."
