Las Vegas is a mecca for many things, but health does not appear to be one of them.

The BetterDoctor.com Healthy Cities Index ranked Las Vegas the seventh least healthy metro area in the nation. A high number of uninsured residents and poor American Fitness Index score contributed to Las Vegas' dismal health rating.

The data-driven ranking looked at exercise rates, the number of residents with health insurance and the percentage of highly rated doctors on BetterDoctor.com, a consumer tool for finding regional doctors.

The study found 77.8 percent of Las Vegas residents have health insurance, which was lower than the majority of cities examined.

Other key findings:

Las Vegas has 2.13 doctors per 1,000 residents.

Nearly 10 percent of doctors in Nevada are highly rated on BetterDoctor.com.

Las Vegas' American Fitness Index score of 43.7 placed it in the bottom half of cities.

The five healthiest cities, in order, were Boston, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Hartford, Conn. Memphis, Tenn., was named the most unhealthy city.
