Fire does $100K in damage to former Las Vegas shop

Officials are investigating after a fire did an estimated $100,000 in damage at a former party and costume prop shop in Downtown Las Vegas early Saturday morning.

According to the fire department and spokesman Tim Szymanski:

Firefighters were called about 6:30 a.m. to the shop, at 525 Park Paseo near Charleston and Las Vegas boulevards. Smoke was coming from the chimney. The shop had closed several years ago, after the owner died.

Firefighters had to force their way into the one-story building because of items stacked against the front door. They were able to get inside through a side door and put the fire out within about 15 minutes.

The fire burned through the ceiling and damaged the attic. The rest of the building sustained smoke damage.

There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
