Salt Lake police send femur to Las Vegas in investigation

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police have sent a section of a femur to Las Vegas authorities in hopes of solving a crime there.

The Deseret News reports that authorities found the body of a man in the small southern Utah community of Summit and believe it may be linked to a homicide investigation in Las Vegas.

Iron County authorities found the body of Ivory "Pops" Hawkins, of Las Vegas, May 22. According to a search warrant affidavit, Las Vegas police were called to Hawkins residents on reports of shots fire April 10.

The femur section has been mailed from the medical examiner's office to Nevada at the request of Las Vegas authorities so DNA can be compared from the bone to blood found on the passenger seat of a suspect's car.
