3 dogs charge police in Reno, 1 shot

RENO — Three dogs reportedly attacked two police officers near the Truckee River east of downtown Reno.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Sgt. Wade Clark says the officers had gone to speak to a group of homeless people Thursday as part of a campaign bringing awareness to Reno's homeless population when three unleashed pit bulls charged at them.

Clark says one of the officers used a Taser on one of the dogs, and another dog was shot after it jumped up and tried to bite the officer.

The dog hit by the gunshot managed to survive and was taken to a veterinary hospital. Police say the other two dogs have been taken to an animal shelter.

Officers found the dogs' owners, but no arrests were made Thursday.
