Nevada unemployment rate falls below 7 percent in June

CARSON CITY — The unemployment rate in Nevada fell to 6.9 percent in June, the first time in seven years it has been below 7 percent.

The state marked its 54th consecutive month of job gains, according to the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Seasonally adjusted figures show total employment of 1,324,100 people in June, 5,000 more than in May.

The national unemployment rate was 5.3 percent.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said he was encouraged by the positive trend in the labor market.
