Fight prompts brief lockdown at Northern Nevada prison

Prison officials say a fight between two inmates led to a brief lockdown at Lovelock Correctional Center on Tuesday morning.

The Nevada Department of Corrections said in a statement that two prisoners started fighting about 8 a.m. in the yard where the prison's general population gathers and wouldn't stop when guards ordered them to.

The agency's statement said guards fired blanks and eventually shot live rounds by skipping the pellets on the ground toward the inmates before the fight was stopped. The two fighting prisoners and a third inmate hit by pellets were treated by on-site medical staffers and released to cells.

The agency said it repealed the lockdown about 11:30 a.m.

Lovelock Correction Center, which can house about 1,680 inmates, is about 100 miles northeast of Reno.
