RENO — In hopes of restricting the oversaturation of downtown, the Reno City Council has voted to place a moratorium on new strip clubs throughout the city for one year.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the city will use the year to study what kind of restrictions can be placed on adult businesses downtown through zoning and code changes.

Councilwoman Neoma Jardon says the ban comes after many complaints about a strip club's sign that is prominent in the area. While there is nothing the city can do to remove the current signs, the year of planning will help prevent future problems.

There are no pending applications for a strip club license and none will be approved during the moratorium. Current clubs also will not be a able to be sold to new management, since that would require a new license.
