A 59-year-old Pahrump man is being held without bail in a Nye County jail after police say he admitted to killing his stepmother.

According to a Nye County Sheriff's Office news release.

On Friday, deputies carried out a welfare check on an elderly woman at a home on West Florida Street in Pahrump after out-of-state family members who'd had no contact with her for several days and noticed suspicious activity on her bank account.

Deputies found the woman's body in the home and began an investigation, during which the woman's stepson, Robert Marygold, arrived home. Marygold admitted to killing his stepmother with a handgun several days before and hiding her body in the house.

He also admitted to using her debit card to make several withdrawals from her account at a casino.

Marygold has been booked on suspicion of open murder, battery with the use of a deadly weapon, concealing evidence, possessing a debit card without the owner's consent, fraudulent use of a debit card and grand larceny.
