System glitch preventing DMV from issuing licenses is resolved

Updated Monday, July 27, 2015 | 11:07 a.m.

A system used to check motorists’ driving records in other states was down briefly this morning, preventing the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles from issuing licenses, permits and driver authorization cards.

The Problem Driver Pointer System, maintained by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators in Arlington, Va., began to malfunction about 9:30 a.m., Nevada DMV spokesman Kevin Malone said. It was back up by 10:45 a.m., he said.

The system allows the DMV to check if people have suspended licenses, revocations or bad driving records in other states. The DMV remained open for car registrations and other functions while the system was down.
