Nevada attorney general fighting federal water regulations

CARSON CITY — Attorney General Adam Laxalt has joined with 29 other state attorneys general in asking federal agencies to delay enforcing water regulations he says will hurt landowners, farmers and developers.

The attorneys general filed a federal lawsuit in June challenging the regulations.

But the court may not have time to consider the case before the regulations take effect Aug. 28, so the states are requesting the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers delay enforcement until the court rules.

Laxalt said the regulations expand federal control over water and will be felt mostly in the West.
