Teenager suspected of DUI in custody after three-car wreck on Pecos near Stewart

Three people were hospitalized, and one teenage boy is in custody after a three-car wreck near downtown yesterday.

Metro Police were called to North Pecos Road south of Stewart Avenue just after 8:30 a.m. Saturday after a 17-year-old boy in a Honda Accord crashed into two cars while driving at a high speed.

Evidence at the scene showed the boy was traveling northbound on Pecos, approaching Stewart Avenue, when he crossed over into the southbound lanes of Pecos and struck a woman in a Mazda CX-7 driving southbound on Pecos. The boy spun the Honda counter-clockwise, causing the right passenger side of the Honda to hit the front of the Mazda. After they collided, they also crashed into a man in a Ford Taurus before coming to a stop.

The teen fled the scene of the accident on foot but was captured shortly thereafter by police.

He had minor injuries, police said. The driver of the Ford had moderate injuries, and the driver of the Mazda had substantial injuries. All three drivers were transported to University Medical Center.

The teen is suspected of driving under the influence, Metro said in a press release.
