SUV crashes through Reno home, killing 2 young children

RENO — Two young children were killed when an SUV crashed through a house in Reno.

Police spokesman Tim Broadway says a 2-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl were inside the house when the SUV crashed through the home and into the backyard shortly after noon Monday a mile south of downtown.

Broadway says the 66-year-old male driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and is cooperating with investigators. He says the victims' mother and a teenage relative also were in the residence at the time but escaped injury.

The accident remains under investigation. Broadway says it appears the driver was speeding and failed to stop at the intersection of Brentwood Avenue and Princess Avenue before hitting the house. He says it doesn't appear drugs or alcohol were involved.
