Mother, son dead after crash in Northern Nevada

RENO — A mother and her young son are dead after the pickup truck they were in crashed on Interstate 80 between Winnemucca and Battle Mountain.

KRNV-TV reports Trooper Jim Stewart, of the Nevada Highway Patrol, said on Tuesday the two had been in the backseat of the truck when the Ford F-150 went off the freeway and rolled. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

The boy was thrown from the truck and the mother was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where she later died.

The extent of injuries to the driver and front-seat passenger were not immediately known.

Stewart says it is unclear why the truck veered off the road.

The crash remains under investigation.
