Motorcyclist dead in crash on 215; alcohol might be involved

A 40-year-old motorcyclist is dead after a collision Saturday morning on the 215 Beltway that might have involved alcohol, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

According to Trooper Loy Hixson:

A Toyota pickup traveling west on the 215 between Aliante Parkway and North Fifth Street crossed the center median into the path of two eastbound motorcycles at 4:12 a.m. One of the motorcyclists was able to avoid the truck.

The other collided with the truck, was thrown off the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both the pickup and the motorcycle caught on fire. The occupants of the pickup, a man and a woman, were taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup is thought to have been impaired.

Eastbound and westbound 215 near Aliante and North Fifth were shut down for several hours as officials investigated. The motorcyclist hasn’t been named pending notification of family members.
