Coroner: Boy, 8, caught in gate was crushed to death

The coroner has confirmed the cause of death for an 8-year-old boy fatally struck by a metal gate in North Las Vegas.

Matthew Cattlet died of blunt force and compression injuries and mechanical compression, according to the Clark County coroner's office.

The child was crushed Tuesday afternoon by a metal gate at the entryway to the community where he lived.

North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said he was crawling through a space in the automatic gate when another child on a bicycle approached the gate and triggered a motion sensor for it to move.

A teenager who witnessed the incident called 911 to report that the boy was stuck in the gate at the Village at Craig Ranch community. Matthew died at the hospital.
