A Metro Police officer suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon when his motorcycle struck the back of a small SUV in the western valley, police said.

The 25-year-old driver of the SUV, a Las Vegas resident, also suffered minor injuries, according to a Metro news release.

Just before 5 p.m., police received reports of the accident at Desert Inn Road west of Tenaya Way, Metro said.

The 2015 Hyundai Tucson was headed east in the center lane on Desert Inn when it slowed for a yellow light, and the officer's motorcycle, which left tire marks on the roadway, struck it from behind, police said.

The 47-year-old officer was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the road, and he was transported to University Medical Center with injuries believed to be nonlife-threatening, police said.

Westbound lanes of Desert Inn were closed as officers investigated.
