2 hurt, 50-plus evacuated in Reno apartment building fire

RENO — Two people were injured and dozens forced from their homes when a fire broke out at a Reno apartment complex.

Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez says about 30 people had to be rescued and more than 50 were displaced by the three-alarm fire reported just before 3 a.m. Tuesday at the three-story building on the southwest side of town.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports two residents were taken to local hospitals to be treated for smoke inhalation. A third person was hospitalized for unrelated reasons.

Three units at the Lakeside Plaza Condos were seriously damaged. Residents whose units were not directly affected have been allowed to return home. The American Red Cross is helping find temporarily shelter for the others.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
