Several arrests follow vehicle shooting, standoff in northeast valley

Area near shooting

Multiple people have been taken into police custody after a standoff following a shooting this afternoon in the northeast valley, Metro Police said.

Police received a report just after 2:30 p.m. of a person with a gun near North Pecos Road and East Carey Avenue, Officer Jesse Roybal said.

Police later were called to the scene of a person shooting at a vehicle in the area. No one was reported injured in the shooting, Roybal said.

Officers believed the shooter was barricaded in a residence about a half-mile away, near Alto Avenue and Sandy Lane, he said.

Jeffers Elementary School, Herron Elementary School and Tate Elementary School, all of which are within about a mile of the barricade, were placed on lockdown for more than an hour during the investigation, Clark County School District Capt. Ken Young said.

Multiple people who were inside the residence and initially refused to come out exited and were taken into custody by 4 p.m., Roybal said.

Descriptions of the subjects were not immediately available.
