Fire in vacant apartment building causes about $100,000 in damage

A fire at 2401 Sunrise Ave., near Stewart and Eastern avenues, caused about $100,000 in damage on Saturday, March 21, 2015.

A fire in a vacant apartment building in the eastern part of the valley cost an estimated $100,000 in damage this morning, according to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.

At 8:22 a.m., crews received reports of a building on fire at 2401 Sunrise Ave., near Stewart and Eastern avenues, officials said.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the one story, eight-unit, wood-frame apartment building, officials said.

They were quickly able to bring the fire under control, and no injuries were reported.

The building was vacant and boarded up, but investigators believe it was frequented by homeless people, officials said.

Mattresses and other materials were found in the building, officials said.
