Low pressure system brings rain, cool temperatures

Rain May 4

Tom Gorman

Rain clouds are seen over Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson, May 4, 2015.

Las Vegas will get a brief break from the heat this week, according to the National Weather Service.

A low pressure system coming from the Pacific Southwest will have temperatures dropping through Friday. The high today is 86 degrees, and the expected high for Tuesday and Wednesday is in the low 80's. Thursday the temperature will take another drop into the mid-70's, followed by a high of 70 degrees on Friday.

Mild showers are expected today, primarily in the southern part of the valley. Some locations might get up to a quarter of an inch of rain, but most will see very light showers, meteorologist Nathan Foster said.

Cloud cover will be heavy today, and remain partly cloudy into Thursday afternoon. The chances of rain tomorrow are "not very good," Foster said.

Saturday will have a high of 78 degrees, and on Sunday we will head back into the upper 80's, with a high of 85 degrees.
