A motorcyclist is dead and a child is in critical condition after an accident Thursday morning in the northeast valley, according to Metro Police.

Police received a call around 7:50 a.m. about a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle on East Lake Mead Boulevard near Marion Drive, Metro Police Officer Jesse Roybal said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and a child was transported to University Medical Center Trauma with what appear to be critical injuries, Roybal said.

The deceased man was identified as 23-year-old Las Vegas resident Jonathan Smith by the Clark County Coroner's Office. The official cause and manner of his death are still pending.

East Lake Mead was shut down between Marion and Dolly Lane while officers investigated, according to Roybal.
