Jones and Cormier Fined For Brawl

Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar, left, listens to Commissioner Bill Brady as they consider penalties for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones during a Nevada State Athletic Commission meeting at the Sawyer State Building Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014. Jones was fined and ordered to do community service for his role in a brawl with Daniel Cormier during a news conference at the MGM Grand last month.

Nevada Athletic Commissioner Bill D. Brady is resigning from the board that regulates the state's boxing industry.

The Las Vegas man sent a resignation letter to Gov. Brian Sandoval this week saying his departure was effective immediately.

Brady is leaving the five-person commission with a year remaining on his third term.

In the letter dated May 6, Brady says there are seasons in life and he believes his season on the commission had come to an end so another season could begin.

Brady was appointed to his first three-year term by Gov. Jim Gibbons in 2007.

Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar says Brady was an integral part of who the commission is and what they do.

Gov. Sandoval is expected to appoint a new member to the board.
