A townhouse near the South Point caught fire this afternoon, filling the nearby sky with dark smoke.

A townhouse near the South Point caught fire this afternoon, filling the nearby sky with dark smoke.

Clark County Fire Department responded to a high level structural fire at 9457 Las Vegas Boulevard South, between Serene and Richmar avenues, around 2 p.m. The fire was later upgraded to two alarm status and officials responded by sending seven engines, two trucks, five rescue crews and three chiefs, Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan said.

Occupants of the two-story home were evacuated.

The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is helping 15 adults and 3 children displaced by the fire, according to the organization's Twitter page.
