A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting Thursday in the Las Vegas Valley's northwest side, Metro Police said.

Officers were called to the shooting just before 9 a.m. yesterday in the 5800 block of Westport Circle, near Gowan Road and Jones Boulevard, police said.

Arriving officers discovered two men with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were transported to UMC Trauma where the suspect, identified as James Stapleton, 46, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The other man is not expected to survive, police said.

An investigation by police found that that the two men were neighbors involved in an ongoing dispute. During the incident, the victim was backing his car out of his driveway when he and Stapleton got into an argument. Shots were exchanged, and both men were wounded, police said.

Stapleton was transported to the Clark County Detention Center, and faces a charge of attempted murder and two counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle.

Once the victim is officially pronounced deceased, Stapleton's charges will be changed to murder, police said.
