Pedestrian critically injured

A pedestrian was critically injured Sunday when he was hit by an SUV as he crossed Sahara Avenue at Las Verdes Street outside a marked crosswalk, Metro Police said.

The pedestrian, Dave Thomas Cox, 44, of Las Vegas was taken to University Medical Center.

Cox was crossing the street diagonally from the southeast corner of Las Verdes about 5:50 p.m. when he was hit by the 2012 Ford Escape, which was eastbound in the left lane of Sahara, police said.

Cox was thrown across the center median into the westbound lanes of Sahara, police said.

The driver, a 28-year-old Las Vegas man, was not suspected of driving impaired and was not injured, police said. The accident remains under investigation.
