Woman gets probation in Medicaid fraud, officials say

A woman was sentenced last week for intentional failure to maintain adequate records after committing Medicaid fraud for more than a year, according to the Nevada Attorney General’s Office.

Michiko Nicole Martin, 34, was sentenced on the gross misdemeanor charge to three years probation, $9,167 in restitution and 100 hours of community service; a 364-day prison sentence was suspended, officials said.

The attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit received information that Martin had allegedly not provided services as described during her employment with four behavioral health companies, officials said.

An investigation revealed she was submitting inaccurate claims for services that either did not occur, contained conflicting times, or were for services that were not for the length of time noted in records, officials said.

During these instances, Martin was receiving payment for the reported services, officials said.

“Martin intentionally misused the Medicaid reimbursement system for her own gain,” Laxalt said in a statement. “This office will continue to investigate and prosecute fraudulent Medicaid providers to ensure the most vulnerable members of our society receive much needed services, and that taxpayers are not fleeced.”
