Southern California man gets jail for poodle killing

BALDWIN PARK, Calif. — A Southern California man who beat to death his miniature poodle has been sentenced to a year in jail.

Prosecutors say Jason Vaca of Baldwin Park was sentenced Tuesday. He also must attend anger management and animal cruelty classes and can't own an animal for 10 years.

Vaca was arrested in March of last year after Baldwin Park police answering a 911 call found Vaca with blood on his clothes and blood in the house.

The officers found Vaca's poodle, Butters, dead in the backyard.

In March, Vaca pleaded no contest to a felony count of animal cruelty.
