Woman shot, killed after answering door is identified

A woman who was shot multiple times and died after answering a knock at an apartment door Sunday in the northeast valley has been identified as Las Vegas resident Epri Nataye Cain, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Cain, 32, was killed in a homicide at 4868 Cleopatra Ave., near Nellis Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue, according to the Coroner's Office and Metro Police.

Police were called about 3:45 a.m. to the apartment after Cain was apparently shot when she opened the front door after hearing a knock while she and a family member were watching TV, police said.

She left a security door between her and the suspect, but the suspect fired multiple rounds through the door and fled in a waiting vehicle, police said.

Cain was pronounced dead at University Medical Center, police said.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting and described the suspect as a black man with short hair, last seen wearing a white shirt and tan shorts.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a light four-door sedan with tinted windows, police said.
