Popular downtown Elko bar loses liquor license

ELKO — The Horseshoe Club has lost its liquor license after police said the popular Elko bar and strip club served minors and visibly intoxicated people.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports that the City Council terminated the Horseshoe's license on Tuesday following seven hours spent collecting testimony and discussing the bar's operations.

Elko Police Chief Ben Reed filed a complaint against the club, saying it allowed minors in the bar, served minors and served liquor to visibly intoxicated people.

Councilors on Tuesday discussed reports of disturbances inside and outside the bar, including fights between large groups, stabbings and people hospitalized after assaults.

They said they were disappointed that Horseshoe Club management did not have a plan to improve the situation.

The club instead focused on proposed changes to downtown alcohol laws.
