Union suspends valet protest outside SLS Las Vegas

Updated Friday, May 22, 2015 | 8:57 p.m.

The Teamsters union says it has stopped picketing outside the SLS Las Vegas hotel and casino, for now, in hopes the property's management is open to discussions.

Teamsters Local 986 has been attempting to unionize the casino-hotel's 50 valet workers and began picketing the property Wednesday morning.

The union says in a statement that the protest could resume at any time.

SLS Las Vegas has said in unsigned statements before that more than half of its hourly employees are unionized and if more followed suit the casino-hotel would work with any union their employees chose.

The casino-hotel says in a statement Friday that it was happy the Teamsters stopped picketing and should its workers join the union, SLS would work with the Teamsters in the "spirit of fairness and respect."
