Bill Foley, seen March 19, 2015, is trying to bring an NHL team to Las Vegas.

The businessman leading the effort to bring Southern Nevada its first professional sports franchise will update residents on his progress at 6 p.m. Wednesday inside Club Madrid at Sunset Station.

Bill Foley, whose Hockey Vision Las Vegas is believed to be on the verge on securing an NHL team for Las Vegas, is scheduled to meet fans and participate in a question-and-answer session with them.

Here’s one question Foley might be asked: How’s the season ticket deposit drive going?

The group on Feb. 10 launched a season ticket deposit drive with aspirations of securing deposits for 10,000 tickets, believing that figure would show NHL officials the area would support a team. While it’s widely believed deposits accounting for more than 10,000 season tickets have been received, the group still hasn’t confirmed they’ve cleared that plateau. For other milestones, such as 8,000 deposits in less than one month, a press release was issued.

The free event will be hosted by Chuck Esposito, director of race and sports book operations for Sunset Station, and Brian Blessing of Fox Sports Radio 920.

Sunset Station is located at 1301 W. Sunset Road in Henderson.
