Man serving time for fatal DUI dies in prison

Nevada prison officials say a 56-year-old inmate died in custody while serving time for driving under the influence in a crash that killed a bicyclist in Las Vegas.

The Nevada Department of Corrections issued a statement Wednesday saying that Charley Anthony Matanza died Sunday at the infirmary at Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs.

No details were provided.

The Clark County coroner conducted an autopsy, and a report on the cause of death is expected after toxicology tests in several weeks.

Records show that Matanza was serving 6 to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in July 2010 to swerving an SUV onto a sidewalk and killing a bicyclist, 43-year-old casino security guard Gary John Lommason.

Matanza admitted being under the influence of methamphetamine, marijuana and anxiety medication.
