Lawmakers approve bill expanding data center tax breaks

CARSON CITY — Nevada lawmakers have approved a measure extending tax breaks to new and expanding data centers and related technology companies.

Assembly members voted 36-6 on Thursday to approve SB170. The measure already passed the Senate and now goes to Gov. Brian Sandoval for approval.

The measure would expand tax abatements affecting data centers and companies that use servers or other computer equipment in the centers. It requires them to invest at least $25 million in capital improvements and hire at least 10 full-time Nevada residents as employees to qualify for the tax break.

Republican and Democratic leadership in the Assembly and Senate have signed on to sponsor the bill.
