2 men killed at Nevada’s Sand Mountain recreation area

CARSON CITY — Two people were killed at the Bureau of Land Management's Sand Mountain Recreation area in separate crashes.

The Nevada Appeal reports that 37-year-old Travis Walker, of Sparks, was struck and killed Friday by a sand rail. A 76-year-old Sacramento, California, man died Saturday while riding a quad.

The second man's family told law enforcement that he had a significant medical history that may have contributed to his death.

Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter says deputies responded to a call about a Reno man brandishing a firearm in the area as well.
