Think Las Vegas Valley is cold now? It’s about to get worse

Those who already are shivering at night are in for a rude awakening in the next couple of days, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday’s high was 70 degrees with a low of 46, couple of degrees above normal temperatures for this time of year.

“It’s a pretty typical nice fall day, which we don’t see much of,” meteorologist Chad Shafer said. “But after today, things are going to deteriorate.”

Also according to Shafer:

Sunday’s high will be 67, but the day will bring “very gusty winds” from 35 to 45 mph by late afternoon and evening. Winds are expected to be “strong and amplified” due to the warm-weather system the valley is getting prior to a storm coming in.

Monday, temperatures are expected to drop to 50 for a high, with a low of 38. There is a 20 percent chance of rain.

The valley also has what Shafer called a “non-zero chance” for snow in higher elevations.

“If it does snow, it’s not going to be a lot,” he said. Snow at Mount Charleston could go down to an elevation of 2,000 to 3,000 feet.

Tuesday is expected to be cold as well. The valley is expected to start warming up after that, reaching the upper 60s for the rest of the week.
