Updated Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 | 7:36 p.m.

A man thought to have been involved in a deadly west valley stabbing in August has been arrested in Panama.

Sergey Mkhitaryan, 32, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon. The alleged stabbing happened about 5:15 p.m. Aug. 20 at a business in the 6600 block of West Flamingo Road near South Torrey Pines Drive.

Metro Police found a man suffering from apparent stab wounds. The man was transported to University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Mkhitaryan and the other man had been fighting, police said. After the fight was broken up, Mkhitaryan left but returned moments later and stabbed the other man multiple times, police said.

With the help of fugitive task forces and federal agencies, Mkhitaryan was arrested in Panama and transported him to Los Angeles, police said. As of Saturday morning, he was awaiting extradition to Las Vegas to be booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

This is the 77th homicide investigated by Metro Police in 2015.
