U.S. 95 travel lane, ramps near downtown Las Vegas closed during repairs

The U.S. 95 northbound on-ramps at Veterans Memorial Drive and Las Vegas Boulevard are temporarily closed, as is one lane of U.S. 95 northbound from Las Vegas Boulevard to Interstate 15, due to last-minute bridge deck repairs, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

The closures, which began about 4 p.m. today, will allow maintenance crews to make repairs to elevated portions of roadway that may run over or under other roads, NDOT spokesman Tony Illia said.

Maintenance crews inspect roads every day, and when they reviewed the now-closed area today, they "felt that it needed immediate attention," Illia said.

"We want to ensure a safe, smooth commute for all valley motorists," he said.

Workers are using epoxy pavement sealant that sets within an hour and are hoping to have repairs completed before 11 p.m., he said.

The Department of Transportation has also undertaken $250,000 worth of concrete bridge deck and paving repairs on southbound I-15 between Lake Mead Boulevard and the Spaghetti Bowl and on U.S. 95 from Eastern Avenue to Martin Luther King Boulevard, according to an NDOT news release.

The department initially wanted to hold off on those repairs until after Project Neon was completed, but it was determined the repairs couldn't wait, he said.

Drivers in all construction areas are asked to exercise caution, the transportation department said.
