2 UNR students from Las Vegas killed in crash near Tonopah

TONOPAH — Authorities say two students from the University of Nevada-Reno died in a car crash about 7 miles outside of Tonopah.

The Nevada Highway Patrol say 19-year-old driver Roman Suslov and 19-year-old passenger Mateo Silva-Medina were killed in the crash early Monday morning. Both were from Las Vegas.

Investigators say their Ford pickup truck was heading west on the two-lane highway when it drifted over the center line into oncoming traffic at about 12:30 a.m. Troopers say Suslov then steered right, causing the truck to flip and land about 100 feet away from the roadway.

Both were pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers say they were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

It's unknown whether impairment was involved.

Investigators are asking any witnesses to contact the highway patrol.
