Two pedestrians hit and killed in separate accidents

A pedestrian died after being struck by an SUV in the east valley, the second pedestrian fatality Monday in the Las Vegas Valley.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified him as Carlos D. Moreno, 53, of Las Vegas.

Moreno, who was not in a crosswalk, was hit by a Ford SUV headed north on Lamb Boulevard near Sahara Avenue about 8:20 p.m., according to Metro Police.

He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver, a 56-year-old Las Vegas man, was not injured, police said. The incident is under investigation.

Another pedestrian, meanwhile, died after being hit about 5:10 p.m. on Arville Street near Sahara Avenue, police said.

The 77-year-old Las Vegas man was crossing the street, just north of San Angelo Avenue, when he was hit by minivan southbound on Arville, police said. He was thrown into the northbound lanes, where he was hit again by a pickup truck, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Neither of the drivers involved were injured, and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
