Las Vegas scooter driver, 27, killed in crash with Jeep

A 27-year-old Las Vegas man died early Saturday morning in a motor scooter crash in the northwest valley, according to Metro Police.

Also according to police:

The drivers of a 2003 Taotao scooter and a 2006 Jeep Cherokee were northbound on North Tenaya Way, south of West Centennial Parkway, about 12:50 a.m. when the Jeep began to pass the scooter, then crossed into the left side of the road. The front of the Jeep struck the back of the scooter, and the scooter’s driver was thrown into the road. He was taken to University Medial Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Jeep’s 31-year-old driver and two passengers, a 30-year-old Las Vegas woman and a 32-year-old Vermont man, were not hurt.

The crash marks the 80th traffic-related fatality in Metro Police’s jurisdiction this year. It remains under investigation.
