Freeway closed after boy threatened to jump from overpass

Authorities briefly shut down U.S. 95 at Valley View Boulevard today after a boy threatened to jump off an overpass, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The freeway was closed about 1:30 p.m. after the boy, whose age was not available, threatened to jump off the Valley View overpass onto the freeway, Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

Metro Police blocked U.S. 95 North in the area, while state troopers blocked the southbound lanes, Stuenkel said.

The boy was taken into custody about 1:50 p.m. and will be taken to a hospital for evaluation, she said.

The freeway has since been reopened, she said.
