Bad defense or tough schedule?

Ray Brewer and Case Keefer dive into Henderson Bowl week by getting into a debate about the annual Basic at Green Valley showdown before moving on to the rest of the schedule.

Here’s this week’s high school football top-10. We have a new team — Las Vegas High — making its debut in the rankings. Enjoy. Debate.

1. Bishop Gorman (6-0, 1-0): Gorman has surrendered just 68 points in six games. Up next: Friday vs. Durango

2. Liberty (4-1): The five-time defending Sunrise Region champs scored 51 first-half points last week against Green Valley in a game that was expected to be close Up next: Friday at Canyon Springs

3. Desert Pines (6-0, 4-0): Desert Pines has surrendered just 53 points in six games. Take that, Gorman Up Next: Thursday at Del Sol

4. Arbor View (5-1, 1-0): Give the ball to Curtis Jones and get out of the way. If Jones is good, the Aggies are great. Up next: Friday vs. Bonanza

5. Basic (4-1): That Henderson Bowl is going to look good in Basic’s trophy case. Up next: Friday in Henderson Bowl at Green Valley

6. Centennial (5-1, 1-0): The Bulldogs are a much improved team from the beginning of the season. Up next: Friday at Cimarron-Memorial

7. Foothill (4-1): The Falcons schedule, finally, will get difficult after this week. Up next: Friday at Eldorado

8. Las Vegas(4-1) : The Wildcats, courtesy of their impressive win last week against Coronado, enter the top-10 for the first time this season. Not only did they beat Coronado, they shut the Cougars out in a six-touchdown victory. Up next: Oct. 16 vs. Canyon Springs

9. Moapa Valley (4-2, 3-1): All signs point to Moapa Valley playing Nov. 7 at Faith Lutheran with a berth in the state tournament on the line. Should be one of the games of the year; until then, though, expect both teams to cruise. Up next: Friday in “Hammer Game” at Virgin Valley

10. Faith Lutheran (5-1, 4-0): See Moapa Valley Up next: Friday at Sierra Vista
