State triples size of park near Ely

CARSON CITY — On the heels of a visit by Gov. Brian Sandoval, the state has acquired 2,980 acres of federal land surrounding Cave Lake State Park near Ely.

The Nevada Division of State Parks said today the acquisition will triple the size of the park, which offers camping, hiking and fishing.

There were an estimated 31,000 visitors in the first six months of this year and 64,000 in 2014.

Sandoval visited the park last week on his 1,100-mile tour of recreational facilities in Nevada.
