Pedestrian in critical condition, driver arrested for DUI after accident near Palace Station

A 62-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car while crossing a street near the central part of the valley Saturday night, according to Metro Police.

Also according to police:

At 10:51 p.m., a 1999 Chevy Corvette traveling west on Sahara Avenue drove through an intersection in front of Palace Station, between Rancho Drive and Paseo Del Prado, on a green light.

The pedestrian was attempting to cross Sahara Avenue from north to south. He was inside the marked crosswalk but was walking against a pedestrian signal when he entered the westbound travel lanes and was struck by the front of the Chevy.

The man was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The 29-year-old driver of the Chevy was arrested on suspicion of DUI after he failed field sobriety tests.

The incident remains under investigation.
